Actress Deepika Padukone’s movie Chhapaak is declared tax-free in Madhya Pradesh. The movie continues to make news. Only a day before its release across the country, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, and Chhattisgarh, incidentally, all ruled by the Congress Government declared the movie tax-free in their respective states. The Chief Ministers of all the three states took to social media to confirm the news.
Velu Narayanasamy’s office shared the news on their official Twitter handle. The government decided to give tax relief to the film which is based on an acid attack survivor as it gives a very ‘clear picture of woman issues’. In a series of posts, Kamal Nath wrote that the movie which releases on Friday spreads a positive message about the victims of an acid attack. After declaring the movie tax-free in the state, he wrote that the film shows the pain, struggle, confidence, passion and hope for life of the acid attack survivors. He added that this movie will bring about a positive change in the society.
Baghel, in the Twitter post stated that the movie will create awareness about acid attacks which remains a heinous crime committed against women. He urged people of the state to watch the movie.
The movie is based on the story of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal and also features Vikrant Massey in a lead role alongside Padukone. There were many hostages like #Boycott Chhapaak and #SupportDeepika that were trending on Twitter after the actress made a political statement by visiting the JNU Campus in Delhi. The star was present there to express solidarity with the students who were attacked by a mob but she did not address the gathering. Many appreciated her presence while there was criticism from many others who called it a move to promote her movie.
